Advanced Details — Deep Dive
CEA-2006 Compliance — Why It Matters
Most car audio amplifiers are rated using inflated peak or "burst" power figures that don't reflect real-world continuous output. CEA-2006 is an industry standard developed by the Consumer Electronics Association that requires amplifiers to be tested at continuous RMS power with less than 1% total harmonic distortion (THD) at a specific impedance. The RV12.2B's amplifier is CEA-2006 compliant, meaning its 200W RMS @ 4 ohm rating is verified under the same standards used by Kenwood, Sony, Kicker, and other major brands. When you see a CEA-2006 rating, you know the power spec is real.
Quasi Transmission Line Enclosure — Bottom-Ported at 15°
The enclosure uses a quasi transmission line (QTL) cabinet design with computer-optimized ports placed on the underside of the cabinet. The enclosure is then angled at 15°, which directs the port output forward and upward into the vehicle cabin rather than straight down into the trunk floor. This positioning maximizes bass coupling with the cabin's air volume, producing louder, more impactful bass than a standard rear-firing or side-firing ported box of the same size. The 3/5" MDF construction is bonded, stapled, and internally braced to eliminate panel resonance at high output levels.
Mono-Block vs. 2-Channel Amplifier — Why It Matters for Bass
Many competing bass packages include a 2-channel stereo amplifier bridged to mono for subwoofer use. Bridging a stereo amp increases power but also increases distortion and reduces the amp's ability to handle low-impedance loads. The RV12.2B includes a purpose-built mono-block amplifier — designed from the ground up to drive a subwoofer load cleanly and efficiently. The Class A/B topology with a high-speed MosFET power supply and bipolar audio transistor output section delivers clean, high-current bass output with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 97 dBA.
Subsonic Filter — Protecting the Subs
The amplifier's adjustable subsonic filter (10–50 Hz) blocks infrasonic frequencies below the subwoofers' usable range. In a ported enclosure, frequencies below the port tuning frequency cause the cone to move with very little acoustic output but maximum mechanical stress — a common cause of subwoofer damage. Setting the subsonic filter just below the enclosure's tuning frequency prevents this, protecting the subs during high-volume playback of bass-heavy tracks or test tones.
Complete 8 AWG Wiring Kit — What's Included and Why It Matters
The included wiring kit contains everything needed for a complete amplifier installation: 17' of 8 AWG translucent blue super-flex power cable, 3' of 8 AWG ground wire, 17' of twisted-pair 100% copper RCA cables, 17' of 18 AWG remote cable, 17' of 16 AWG speaker wire, a gold-plated ANL fuse holder with 50A fuse, 7' of split tube loom, and installation hardware (wire ties, ring terminals, butt connectors, spades, and grommet). Using 8 AWG power wire is important for a 400W RMS amplifier — undersized wire causes voltage drop that reduces amplifier output and generates heat. The included kit is properly sized for this system.
